Killer: because there’s alot of bad things in this world and a lot of bad people and you detective are one of the worst, gambling, drugs, alcoholism my little game is simply to bring the vermin of this world to where they belong.

Detective: This doesn’t seem much of a game.

Killer: Not all games cost money detective (name)

(Beep Beep – diegetic sound of a phone)

Detective: But no game should cost a life.

Killer in room: and the game begins, psychotic laugh.

(interrogation room)

Detective: You’re my favourite type of murder you know

Killer: and whys that detective?

Detective: Because id enjoy watching you spend the rest of you life rotting in nothing but your memories while your ideas and fantasies burn around you.

Killer: oh no I’m a completely different type of monster one day ill just disappear, and leave you with nothing, no family, no job, no future, I could just take everything including the life of the ones you love.

Research and Planning:- Audition poster

Today we made an audition poster to go around college, we decided if we hold auditions we will get more of a variety of people, we are auditioning for the role of police man and people to act dead as a murder scene.

Research and Planning:- Publication plan

Research and Planning:- costume and props list for film poster

For our film poster i will need.
  • playing cards.
  • either a suite or casual dress for the detective and killer.
  • Fake blood.
  • handcuffs
  • fake blood depending what design i go for.
  • make up for the killers character.

Research and Planning:- costume and props list for film magazine

For my film magazine i will need very similar props as for my film poster, also dependent on the design but the general things will be.

  • Dress for both detective and killer .
  • A knife.
  • Fake blood.
  • Playing cards.
  • seat for killer.
  • Broken handcuffs.
  • A dark rough looking background.

Research and Planning:- Film magazine analysis 2

This is my second magazine analysis and a personal favourite of mine it is the dark knight (2007) special joker edition.

The thing i believe is most effective is general look of this one with the colours and writing i believe it really  reflects the character of the joker and i believe the image backs that up.
Another think i like about it is the image once again it best reflects the character of the joker down to what he's wearing and how he's sat in somewhere which seems like a prison cell if you where to guess from the background.
Although i believe this to be a magazine made by students i think it was prehaps one of the most effective magazine i could see.

Things i think are ineffective are how everything is to the right side of the page, i believe this takes alot of the effect from the magazine.
Another thing that i find ineffective is the top part where it says the dark knight world exclusive i believe it is slightly to in your face, and makes the magazine slightly to in your face id personally say it could have done with having a green or purple tinge.

Research and Planning:- Film magazine analysis 1

This is my first film magazine front cover, I will talk about what I think is effective and what I think is ineffective.

I believe the over all lay out is effective and the placement with the image is very effective.
also the colours red for the title with red being the best sales colour is very eye catching where all the other colours are relatively nutral meaning the magazine isn't to in your face yet it is effective.
I also think the images are good effective and the way they are lay out is good and it gives a very organised look to the magazine and does give you a lot to look at making you feel that there is a lot more in the magazine than you would originally think.

What I believe is ineffective i believe the placement of the bar code isn't great as i feel it intrudes a bit to much onto the front cover and looks stuck on last minute.
Another issue i have with it is the small signature Esc writing as i think it doesn't necessarily fit in with the magazine although its the same colour i just think it makes the magazine look slightly cramped.
My final problem with it are the images on the bottom of the page i believe they look a bit to childish for a 'Tribute' and it wouldn't have taken much to get real images.

All together there are a few flaws but i do think the magazine is incredibly effective.

Research and Planning:- Film poster analysis 2

I believe this is an incredibly effective film poster for my genre, I like the idea of a figure inside the eye and the positioning of all the writing, I believe this is incredibly effective for my genre and i will be giving this much consideration when it comes to the creation of my poster. Although i believe this is actually a horror magazine i believe there is a crossover between the genre of thriller and horror although i also believe thriller posters use far more low key lighting so if i was to recreate a magazine like this I will personally put a black and white filter on and maybe make the character in the middle more dominating and central.

Research and planning:- Film poster analysis 1

My first film poster is Sweeney Todd once again like my film magazine front cover analysis i'm going to say what I like what I don't what I think is effective and what I believe is ineffective.

I think the most effective things about this poster is the colour and layout, i think the colour while giving you a hint about who the director is as the colour and layout looks very Tim Burton. Also the colour scheme is very effective with red white and silver as it tells you a lot about the character with the darkness, they use red which is one of the best sales colour and the saying never forgive never forget, reminds you of the story of Sweeney Todd a name i think most people would relate to the demon barber and remember the story.

Things i think are ineffective about the poster are the distance you have between you and the character making it hard to make out the fact its Johnny Depp and takes the film off a more personal level i think you get when you see a close up of the face of the actor. I also believe it would be slightly more effective if at the top of the poster it named the famous people who not only preformed in the trailer but the directors name tim burton.

Research and planning:- Film name ideas

My group discussed film names today the ideas we came up with were in relation to playing cards and gambleing as our plot is based around this idea of life being a game.

Our first idea was: The Game we chose this as it is simple and states exactly what our film is about without giving too much detail. We want them to be intrigued therefore leaving them wanting more.

Our second idea was: Ace of Spades we chose this we know that this is one of the most iconic cards and will attract people as many people play cards.

Our final idea was: Ace is high we chose this as we thought this was the most appropriate to our plot idea.

Research and Planning:- Story Board (Group Meeting)

Today we started our story boarding for our film trailer, we came up with a running order and this is how it went:

  • Detective folding in a game of cards, some coloured chips next to him to show that he is low and desperate for money, low key lighting.
  • He gets roughed up and thrown out of the casino. Stands back up and shakes off (raining outside)
  • He gets a message (close up of phone) the message reads 'its time to play a game.'
  • Flash 6 images of victims of the murderer.
  • Then calm again to show killer sat down with the victims pictures on the walls.
  • Speed up flashing of 6 more victims.
  • Cuts to interrogation (quite subdued talking)
  • The killer goes mad throws the table over, starts yelling.
  • Close up of the ace in the detective hands.

Research and Planing:- Logo Design

This is the logo we decided on for our Production company, Bright Spark Productions.
it was made in photoshop. Since bright spark means Intelligence (If someone is a bright spark they are an intelligent person) we thought that it would be representing an intelligent type of film genre, that being crime/mystery. We decided on this particular idea of a light bulb since we are making a crime film trailer. A light bulb is sometimes depicted as an idea. At which point it went quite well with our idea of crime/mystery. The blue was used because it looks similar to the ultraviolet light used in many crime films where people look for cleaned blood under the light. We used yellow text as it related to the fact that it is a light bulb and because the name is Bright spark productions. We thought this would connatate quite well.

Research and Planning:- Trailer Convention

Research and Planning:- Costume and props

We had a meeting today about props and costumes, and we decided on certain things we will need to have for our pictures and trailers:
  • Playing Cards.
  • Casual clothing for the victims.
  • Smart clothing for the killer and the detective for example a suit and a shirt and tie.
  • Knives and a rubber knife for the murder scene.
  • A gun for the detective.
  • fake blood.
  • Cation tape.
  • large lamp for interrogation.

Research and Planning:- Pitch

Research and Planning:- Production meeting two

In our second meeting we discussed two plot ideas.

The fist one: 4 days

Someone wife/ family member being held hostage.
Told to rob a list of banks other they will kill their loved one
4 days to collect the money
Snap chats to show the condition of the family member and each banks layout.
Gets caught robbing the last bank on the 4th day

The second idea is:
A detective thats bored and has no money receives an email: “Its time you played a game”
A series of pictures start being sent to him of people he loves dead
Each victim has a card on them starting from 2 of spades up to the king, each time the victim is someone closer to him . This is to signify that each card is a higher stake of person.

Research and Planning:- Production meeting three

In this meeting we discussed in further detail our chosen plot idea 'Ace is high'

After we chose our favourite plot idea we decided to then expand on our characters.
  • When we allocated roles we decided to pick and change our story line and our character profiles.
  • What we decided about charecters are that the killer will be a sociopathic killer meaning he would be highly intelligent and cunning and a lot less likely to get caught than a psychopath, and the sociopath is more likely to dislike the police detective for his gambling addiction.
  • We decided the police detective would be a definate gambler and this would be to help understand the story and why the film is called 'Ace is high' the killer leaves playing cards to taunt the detectives.

Research and Planning: Proposals

This year I have three tasks to complete on my blog:

  • Film Trailer
  • Film poster
  • Film magazine front cover
In my proposal I shall mention what I will put into my film trailer.

Mise-en-scene:
  • Quite streets.
  • Parks
  • Public places.
  • Train stations.
  • Other places we can stage interrogations and murder scenes.
  • Well dressed casual clothing.

 Editing:
  •  Fast Paced editing to show peek moments, such as the murders.
  • Long uncut editing showing moments of the interigation.
  • No special effects except false blood most likely.
  • Simple editing transitions will be used.
Sound:
  • mostly monotone droning behind the dialogue
  • A mix of diegitic and non diegitic.
  • The diegitic sounds will be used to add realism to the film for example speaking.
Cinematography:
  •  POV shots to show some realistic view points and confrontation moments.
  • High angles to show who is the dominate person in tension moments such as interviews and to show the characters who will be playing dead.
  • We Will be using a mix of tripods and hand held camera use because we feel it will create a mix of a movie feel to it and also a realistic feel to the film when we are using the handheld camera.
