Evaluation: Question 4 How did you use media technologies in the construction and research and planning of my evaluation stages.

I have used a variety of media in both the research and creation of my trailer, poster and magazine cover.
I began using the internet and YouTube to search for typical conventions of genre, then focusing more on the specific genre of thriller. I then went to look at trailer examples such as Seven to find typical conventions I could use such as colours often found in our genre.
I created a questionnaire and showed the results with Microsoft PowerPoint to organise how I would create a trailer and also interviewed some members of my target audience with a camera.
I created a publication plan and used worditout to come up with names for my products.
I then began to create my trailer by filming on a camcorder and then importing footage into iMovie to split and edit clips, also adding effects to the footage like fades and black and white.
I then used Photoshop to design a layout for both a film poster and a magazine cover and put pictures from an SLR camera I used into this.
Throughout the creation of these products I was updating my progress on blogger.
Music was created for my trailer using garage band software and imported to iTunes before being added to the trailer in iMovie.
I also used IShowU to create pod-casts and show myself working through these tasks.
Other softwear I used where Microsoft word and Powerpoint. I also used my Samsung tablet to take some images and keep my blog updated.

Evaluation:- Question 3 What have you learnt from audience feedback?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKtXq1oST3Q&feature=youtu.be

once again above is a link encase you encounter any problems accessing the video.

Audience feedback has been a major role in the creation of my media product from start to end and it I because of audience feedback I believe my film poster came out how it did because when I started it wasn't very effective or powerful and it really wasn't having the effect I wanted it to but after some constructive criticism I scrapped my whole idea and went for my what at the time was a secondary design, which came out far better.

When it comes to my film magazine I believe audience feedback was somewhat ignored and I will admit it is the weaker of the two for the main reason that the images are no where near as effective but one piece of advice I feel I must justify going against is the advice to switch my text to the right of the page although I understand why this was advised I went against it for the simple reason of my exemplar magazine I used had the text on the left hand side.

Edits to trailers came through audience feedback as well. so a black and white screen to make the scene look more lifelike as we couldn't visit a real casino.
voiceover changed from female to male as its more stereotypical of our genre.
we cut out the actual murder to avoid giving to much away.
we made the clips of the bodies longer.
only have a short interview scene as trailers are a series of short clips.
add a countdown suggested by a team members family member.
finally we then used a female voice for the countdown and the ace
is high to make it sound sinister.

Evaluation: Question 2 how effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary task.

http://kristian12.edu.glogster.com/edit/new-glog/ - my glogster

Here is the script for this question:
Bethany: talk about the feature of main character being used in all three
Kristian: colour scheme used
Bethany: cards used in all three tasks
Kristian: tag line included in both trailer and poster
Bethany: production and distribution company's logos in both poster and trailer not in magazine
Kristian: made focus on the killer
Bethany: colours
Kristian: Used actors names throughout
Bethany: props used throughout

This is the script we used when talking in our video.

Both the magazine and poster are good with the colour scheme I think they tie in well together with the film trailer, and there's an obvious link between them.

I also like how professional the poster and magazine look with the title being bold and how the mast head really stands out on the black background.

Also the images are very applicable to the genre of horror/ Thriller so yeah I think its really effective.

There's just a couple of things I think the pitch of the voice over maybe a little to high and the fight scene could have done with being slightly brighter but I don’t think it detracts from the work at all I think its just as effective

These are the comments I got from an interview on how my three tasks link together you will find the video below.

The main comments being on my:
  • consistency.
  • how my three tasks go together.
  • how the colour scheme works well.

I discuss how the main product of the trailer and the ancillary tasks of the poster magazine work in communion and how it is possible to tell they are advertising the same product - the film 'Ace is high'.

Good vs Bad: There is a clear contrast shown in my trailer of which character is the protagonist and who is the antagonist however in my magazine and poster the images are just of the antagonist so I tried to portray him as sinister and organized through the use of props such as the cut throat razor.

Representation: The representation of the killer is maintained as sinister and creepy throughout the poster and magazine through the use of the props and low key lighting this helped to distinguish the villain from other characters in the narrative. The character of the detective is portrayed as being carless and venerable through the film trailer as there image isn't in the poster or magazine cover, as they starred a lot more in the trailer I didn't want an audience to think its just about a detectives life I wanted it to go alittle more against convention.

Colour and Lighting: I have used the three colour rule and kept the magazine and poster the same colours of red, white and black to promote the same product of the film 'Ace is high' and portray the genre of a thriller.

Location: I have used many locations in the making of my trailer as not to make it look confined and like it is made by college students, but for my poster and film magazine I decided to cut images out as to not let a background distract us from the images and give the images more of a background making the killer look more sinister

Research and Planning: Major Poster Edit

Research and Planning: Tagline Ideas

Thinking of tag lines we came up with a few ideas:

  • Time to play a game.
  • Play your Cards Right
  • Fear a full house
We decided we are going to go for time to play a game it relates to the idea of true killer seeing life as a game and we agreed as a group its easily the most effective.
